Hmmm... What should I say about me? What would the average person really want to know about me?

Well, I suppose I could begin with the basics. My name is Valerie Hickey. I was born in a small town called Elliot Lake, Ontario in October 1979.

I moved to Southwestern Ontario in 1994 and have lived here ever since. I went to university for business commerce for a year, then transferred to college in IT. I didn't really like either program and haven't used any of the skills learned since. I'm now a receptionist at a law firm. I have to admit I would like to go back now that I have a career direction and go through the law clerk program. I have been able to figure out some of the documents and procedures on my own and with some help from my co-workers, but I feel that I could further my career (and raise my pay-rate) if I increase my knowledge and skill level.

One thing stopping me so far is a lack of transportation. I used to own a car, but sold it in 2004 to pay off debts and have a clear credit slate while purchasing my own home. So you say, what about public transportation, right? Well, it and I just don't understand each other, and the one going to the college only runs once an hour. It's a LONG way home if I miss the late one.

Anyway... so as mentioned, I sold my car to purchase my home. Some of my interests include home renovation. I have been having a blast rebuilding my home from the floor up. The bedroom was first. I grew up not being allowed to post anything on my walls, always having to worry about "resale" value. So what was the first thing I did? I painted my room, my sanctuary, drumbeat red. It's glorious! I can't sleep when there's light, and with the black shade that I put up after, the room is like a crypt. I LOVE it. It'll cost me hours when/if I ever paint over it, but it will have been well worth it.

The next room I concentrated on was my bathroom. It took months. I had to replace the toilet, sink/vanity and floor, repair the ceiling where moisture had done some damage and paint the entire room. Final touches included shower doors and I even learned how to replace all the electrical fittings in the room (switch, two outlets and the vanity light).

Anyway, I've continued from there, and learned a lot of new skills. I won't bore you with the rest... which is mostly paint.

Some other interests I have are listed at the left. These include costuming, embroidery (both under The Courtesan) and, above all others, dancing.

Next, I have included a "Reviews" section to my part of this site as I love to read and I feel like sharing my thoughts with you.

Finally, I have included my feeble attempts at art and prose. Feel free to critique if you'd like.
